Dual capture. Visual explanations. A workflow you control.
Your first capture
Install, activate and create a short test before an important recording.
1. Install and activate
Run the complete installer and open Dual Screen Recorder. Choose a language from the selector. On first launch, select Try for 10 minutes to use the trial, or activate a license. For a paid license, select Copy computer code and send that code to the seller.
When you receive your .dsrlicense file, select Import license file, choose the file and select Activate. You may also paste the complete serial. The computer code identifies your machine; it is not the serial number.
2. Choose a destination and source
Under Files and settings, choose a local output folder you can write to. Return to Recording and choose a monitor, two monitors or an area. For two different monitor images, use Win + P and select Extend in Windows.
3. Record a ten-second sample
Start with MP4, 30 FPS and original resolution. Check your audio, start recording, then stop after ten seconds. Open the saved file and check the picture and voice before a longer session.
Trial, annual or lifetime license
Choose your term; every option uses the same application.
| Option | Duration | Activation |
|---|---|---|
| Trial | 10 cumulative minutes with the application open | No serial; select Try for 10 minutes |
| Annual | 12 months from issue or previous expiry for early renewal | Signed serial bound to the computer code |
| Lifetime | No expiration date | Signed serial bound to the computer code |
How the trial works
The timer begins when you select the trial and continues while the app is open, including recording pauses and time in the system tray. Both areas share one budget. Restarting the app does not restore time. Five-second slices are reserved in advance; unused time in the current slice is not refunded on exit.
The bottom strip shows the remaining time. At the limit, active recordings are stopped and finalized. Saved files remain yours. Select Activate / renew to continue. Stop recording before changing your license.
Annual renewal
The exact UTC expiration appears in the bottom strip and license details. Renew manually through the seller and import the new serial. This app does not automatically charge a payment method or process payments.
Windows time and local state
Keep the date and time correct. Significant backward clock changes are detected. Trial state is protected in the current Windows profile; there is no central trial account or server. A clean reinstall, deleting all local state, and an administrator controlling the system cannot be reliably prevented by an offline-only model.
The interface at a glance
Select your source in the centre and keep session controls within reach.
Sources and areas
The top list selects the capture mode. Cards show the selected monitors or areas. Manual 1 / Auto 1 replace Area 1; Manual 2 / Auto 2 replace Area 2.
Quick actions
PNG photo captures the selected sources. Draw 1 / Draw 2 open tools for the corresponding area. Show controls restores the floating toolbars.
Configuration
Choose FPS, format, output resolution and quality on the Recording page. Choose audio devices under Sound. Find the destination and session options under Files and settings.
Control and help
The bottom strip shows time, status and shared controls. About contains the guide, publisher information and license details.
Choose the right capture mode
Seven modes for complete screens, comparisons and focused details.
| Mode | Output | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| One screen | One file for the selected monitor. | A full presentation or demonstration. |
| Two screens - separate files | One file per monitor. | Independent editing or delivery. |
| Two screens - side by side | One horizontally combined file. | Compare two applications. |
| Two screens - vertical | One vertically combined file. | A stacked two-monitor composition. |
| Entire desktop | The surface enclosing the selected monitors. | A workflow spread across the desktop. |
| Selected area | One selected rectangle. | Show a relevant detail. |
| Two areas - separate files | One file for each selected area. | Two windows or details, even on one monitor. |
Manual selection
Select Manual 1 or Manual 2 and drag your rectangle. Each area must be at least 16 × 16 pixels. Press Esc to cancel and keep the previous area.
Automatic selection
Select Auto 1 or Auto 2, point to a window and click to confirm its detected rectangle. You can also drag a custom area. Esc or right-click cancels selection.
Start, explain and stop
Shared controls and area controls work together.
Shared recording
Choose sources and select the main recording button. Wait for the countdown if enabled. Separate-file modes also provide individual controls for the sources. Side-by-side and vertical modes create one combined output.
Pause and finish
Pause suspends picture and sound. Resume continues the same capture. Stop ends capture and finalises the files. Wait for saving to finish before closing the application or shutting down the computer.
One area
REC, Stop and Pause on an area's toolbar control that recording in independent modes. Its camera button saves a photo of that area.
Hidden controls
× hides the toolbar while recording continues. Use Show controls to restore it. The shared stop button remains available in the main application.
Complete keyboard shortcuts
| Action | Keys |
|---|---|
| Start / stop | Ctrl + Shift + F8 |
| Pause / resume | Ctrl + Shift + F9 |
| PNG photo | Ctrl + Shift + F10 |
Use application buttons if another program already occupies a shortcut. Source configuration is locked during recording; photo and drawing actions remain available.
Audio and output quality
Use a short sample to find the right balance for your computer.
Computer audio
Enable System audio and check the selected device. Use it for application sounds, videos and presentations.
Your voice
Enable Microphone, choose the device and adjust its level. Check Windows microphone permissions for desktop applications if it is silent.
You can use both audio sources. Listen to the sample to avoid an overpowering microphone or speaker echo. Settings are applied when the session starts.
| Format | Video + audio | Typical purpose |
|---|---|---|
| MP4 | H.264 + AAC | A starting point for common delivery. |
| MKV | H.264 + AAC | A Matroska-based workflow. |
| MOV | H.264 + AAC | Projects requiring a MOV container. |
| AVI | MPEG-4 + MP3 | Older editing and playback workflows. |
| WebM | VP9 + Opus | WebM delivery. |
FPS, resolution and compression
Available rates are 10, 15, 24, 30 and 60 FPS. Higher rates require more resources. Keep original resolution or limit the output to HD, Full HD, QHD or 4K UHD. A small source is not artificially enlarged to 4K.
Higher quality usually creates larger files. Encoding profiles trade speed against compression. Start with 30 FPS, MP4, original resolution and balanced quality, then adjust to the result you need.
Photos and visual explanations
Capture a still image or annotate before recording, during it or while paused.
Two ways to take a photo
PNG photo in the main window captures the selected sources. The camera on an area's toolbar captures that area only. Files go directly into the chosen output folder.
The saved-photo preview offers Open, Show in folder, Copy image and the photo editor. Closing the preview does not delete the photo.
Live drawing for each area
Select Draw 1, Draw 2 or an area's pencil button. Choose pen, highlighter, arrow, rectangle, ellipse, text, eraser or laser. Set colour and width; click a position to enter text.
Quick corrections
Undo, Redo and Clear area affect the selected area. The eraser removes intersected annotations without changing the application underneath.
Return to your work
Press Esc or choose the pointer tool to control other applications again. Drawings stay visible; the laser is temporary.
Edit a saved photo
Select the image in the preview, open the editor and add annotations. Use Save a copy to preserve the original. The editor's eraser removes annotations made in the editor; it cannot separate drawings already baked into the original image pixels.
What appears in a capture
Check both visibility settings before recording your final material.
Windows + Print Screen
Under Files and settings, Show recorder in Windows screenshots allows visible application windows to appear in Windows captures. Use the normal Windows screenshot shortcut.
| Configuration | Intended result |
|---|---|
| Windows screenshot visibility enabled | Visible windows, borders and controls can appear in desktop captures. |
| Windows visibility disabled; controls excluded | Tracked interface windows are excluded; visible drawings can remain in the result. |
| Windows visibility disabled; Include controls in captures enabled | Toolbars and the drawing palette can be included; the main window and borders remain excluded. |
For a tutorial without the recorder interface
- Turn Windows screenshot visibility off.
- Turn Include controls in captures off in the drawing palette.
- Inspect a photo or short sample recording.
Online meeting sharing
The recorder does not broadcast a live stream by itself. If you use another application for sharing, test it separately: sharing a single window may omit drawings displayed in an overlay window.
Files, history and recovery
Results are local. You choose their destination and retention.
Find your results
Finished photos and videos are saved directly in the chosen output folder. Names include dates and identifiers to avoid overwriting. Independent output modes keep separate source files.
Use Files and settings to view history and open files or the output folder. Do not move a file while it is still being finalised.
Session options
Set a countdown from 0 to 15 seconds and automatic stop up to 330 minutes. An automatic-stop value of 0 sets no limit through that option. Preferences and, if enabled, selected areas are remembered for later use.
If finalisation fails
Note the message and keep the indicated folder. Intermediate data may remain in %LOCALAPPDATA%\DualSreenRecorder\Recovery. Keep it if you want to attempt recovery. Its presence does not guarantee that every part of the recording can be reconstructed.
Uninstalling and reinstalling
Uninstalling preserves recordings and profile preferences. An ordinary application update preserves activation. A clean Windows installation requires entering your license again; keep a copy outside the drive you will reinstall.
Resolve common situations
Begin with the exact message and a short test.
| Situation | What to check |
|---|---|
| Video source list is missing | Install version 2.4.4 or newer over the existing version. The fix for 200% display scaling is included and survives reinstallation. |
| Serial rejected | Import the complete .dsrlicense file. Check it belongs to this computer code. The computer code is not the serial. |
| Two monitors show the same picture | Select Win + P → Extend in Windows, then refresh the monitor list. |
| Silent microphone | Selected device, microphone enablement, level and Windows permissions. |
| Cannot change an area | Stop recording before changing sources. Try Manual selection and a rectangle at least 16 × 16 pixels. |
| A toolbar disappeared | Select Show controls. × hides the toolbar without stopping capture. |
| Photo not saved | Source selection, output folder, write access, free space and the error shown in the preview. |
| Recorder interface in the video | Check both visibility settings and inspect a sample. |
| Black or incomplete picture | Protected content, the locked desktop and some applications may block capture. Test ordinary content. |
Useful support information
Provide the application and Windows versions, capture mode, number of monitors and exact error message. If needed, include an error screenshot with sensitive details removed.
The local startup log is %LOCALAPPDATA%\DualSreenRecorder\Logs\startup.log. Launching with --safe-mode uses separate settings and uses the same trial and activation.

Updates from the app
New releases while keeping your license and preferences.
Check for a new release
Open About and select Check for updates. Check for updates automatically (daily) is enabled by default and can be switched off at any time. Automatic checks start after opening the app, while you are not recording. Recording and activation continue to work without internet access.
A newer release displays its version, download size and changes published by the publisher.
Select Download update. You can cancel the download. The app verifies the package before allowing installation.
Select Install update and confirm closing the app. Follow the installer steps. At the end, keep the launch option selected and choose Finish.
If a check or download fails
Continue using the installed release and try again later. Incomplete or modified packages are rejected. If the publisher has not uploaded the update files yet, the check reports that updates could not be checked.
Update checks contact www.inimagini.ro and transmit normal connection information, including your IP address and the app version. They do not send your serial, computer code, screenshots or recordings. This feature starts with release 2.3.0; earlier releases need a manual upgrade to this release.
